SUBJECT: Auxotrophs after uv irradiation
DATE: 5/97

I am trying to set up a lab in which the students look for E. coli auxotrophs
on minimal media after uv irradiation for an intro level microbiology class. I
get plenty of cell death and hoped to find some mutants in the surviving cells,
but so far haven't found any. Has anyone done this successfully? What strain of
E. coli did you use? I can be reached through biolab or directly through email
kbaier@center.colgate.edu
Thanks, Kath

I helped to develop this lab if you have questions. It's one of our more
intense learning experiences each year.
